Let's Make Fossil Fuels History

Australia has a once-in-a-generation chance to lead the world, to be part of a clean, renewable future - powered by sun and wind, not new coal, oil and gas. Let's not waste it.

Take Action Today

Right now, the Australian Government is still approving new fossil fuel projects. That locks in more climate pollution — when the world needs a fast, fair transition away from fossil fuels.

Add your name to call on the Australian Government to
- stop approving new coal, oil and gas projects, and
- set a clear roadmap to end fossil fuel extraction in Australia by 2035, with a fair plan for workers and communities

The Issue

Here's the thing: fossil fuels are the number one cause of climate change. Coal, oil and gas are responsible for around three-quarters of the climate pollution heating our planet. The science is clear - we cannot afford to dig up any new coal, oil or gas, and we have to wind down what we've already got.

Australia is one of the biggest fossil fuel exporters on Earth. That means we're also one of the biggest contributors to the problem, and one of the biggest opportunities to do something about it.

And the timing? It couldn't be better.

Why Now

In late 2026, Australia will lead the negotiations at the next global climate summit, COP31. (More on what that is in the FAQs below.) For the first time, Australia will be in the room, leading the discussion, in a powerful position to shape what happens next.
Late last year, Australia signed an international pledge called the Belém Declaration, promising to move away from fossil fuels in a fair and just way. The question is: will we follow words with a plan at home?

A credible roadmap, showing true climate leadership, to end fossil fuel extraction in Australia by 2035 should:

  1. Stop expansion: no new coal, oil or gas projects approved.
  2. Plan the phase down: clear steps to wind down existing extraction.
  3. Back people: a fair transition that supports workers and communities.
  4. Scale renewables: accelerate clean energy and storage so Australia can thrive in a new energy economy.

The communities feeling climate change most are the ones who've contributed to it the least. First Nations communities here in Australia and our Pacific Island neighbours have been calling for a fossil fuel phase-out for years. They're already living with the consequences - fiercer fires, longer droughts, hotter summers, rising seas. It's time the Australian Government caught up with what they've been saying all along.

Don’t look away. Don’t doom scroll. Do something.

We’ve got the tech. We’ve got the resources. We’ve got the chance.

Now we need the Government to act — and that’s where you come in.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • COP31 is the world's biggest climate meeting, where (almost)every country on Earth comes together once a year to figure out how we tackle the climate crisis.  In 2026, Türkiye will host COP31.  But here’s the exciting bit - Australia is leading the negotiations. That means our Government will be writing the agenda, drafting the policy and running the negotiations. Australia has more influence over global climate decisions in 2026 than it's ever had before.  There will also be a special pre-meeting hosted in the Pacific, putting our region's experience of climate change front and centre.  If we want the rest of the world to take action, then we need to show bold leadership, and that starts with decarbonising Australia, and implementing a roadmap to end our reliance on fossil fuels.

  • The Belém Declaration is a global pledge to move away from fossil fuels in a considerate and planned way. It was signed at the last COP in November 2025, and Australia put its name on it alongside dozens of other countries.  The declaration has three pillars:

    • Phasing out coal, oil and gas in line with what climate science says is needed
    • Scaling up clean energy - solar, wind and battery storage
    • Supporting workers and communities through the transition, so no one is left behind

Signing it was a big step in the right direction for Australia.  But Backing it up with a real plan at home is the next, much bigger step – and that's what this campaign is about.

  • Most of the coal and gas we pull out of the ground here doesn't stay here. It's shipped overseas and burned somewhere else. But that climate pollution still ends up in the same atmosphere we all share – carbon emissions aren’t limited by borders! By winding down extraction, Australia stops fuelling other countries' climate pollution at the source. We need to turn the fossil fuel tap off – and as the world’s second biggest gas exporter, and support the wider shift to clean energy systems Why is this a justice issue?

The communities feeling climate change most are the ones who've done least to cause it. First Nations communities in Australia are already living with longer fire seasons, hotter summers, devastating floods, and reefs and rivers under threat. Pacific Island nations, including Tuvalu, Samoa, Fiji, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and Micronesiae already experiencing rising seas that threaten their homes, their cultures and, in some cases, the very future of their countries.

Earlier this year, those six Pacific nations launched a joint call for a fossil fuel free Pacific, asking the wider region, including Australia, to commit to a 100% renewable energy future and an end to fossil fuel expansion.  Listening to them isn't optional.  As a wealthy country and one of the world's biggest fossil fuel exporters, Australia has a particular responsibility to act.

  • Honest answer: we're working hard to get off them, but we're not all the way there yet. We've made a commitment to transition to 100% clean energy at our facilities, and we're close - backed by heat-recovery projects, biodigesters that turn our wastewater and waste ice cream into electricity, and energy-efficiency upgrades across our sites.

Dairy is our biggest source of climate pollution (around half of our total greenhouse gas footprint), and we're chasing science-based targets to cut that too, through feed-additive research, regenerative farming pilots with our farmers, our growing range of non-dairy flavours, and a carbon-insetting partnership designed to take 140,000 metric tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere over 20 years.
We're not perfect. But we count every bit of carbon and we keep working at it. And because shutting our company down tomorrow wouldn't be enough to fix this on its own, we use our voice to push for the bigger changes only governments can make.
