We can create a clean, resilient and fair Australia.

COVID-19 has caused a crisis unlike anyone has ever seen before. It is important that we get the next part right because how we respond will shape Australia and the world for years to come.

Climate change isn’t going anywhere - in fact, it’s only going to get worse unless we act right now. And we mean RIGHT NOW. We know some of the climate news can be scary. But there is good news! We can tackle climate change and rebuild Australia’s economy at the same time. Even better? If we do this right, it’s going to make Australia cleaner, more resilient and fairer.

The best thing is - we already have the solutions! Did you know Green steel can secure future green jobs for coalminers? Or that an economic rebuild focussed on renewable energy could provide more than 76,000 jobs? Or that we can become an energy superpower and sell our renewable energy to the rest of the world?

So what are we waiting for? Good question! Now is the perfect time. We need to act now to ensure our voices are heard and that the government knows that we want them to invest in a clean, resilient and fair future for Australia.

The Issue & How to Take Action

The Issue

The climate crisis is getting worse every single day and despite everything that 2020 has thrown at us we have not forgotten about the horrendous bushfires. If the bushfires taught us one thing it was that we need to make fossil fuels history! The Government has proposed pouring public money into big gas projects, which would be a disaster for our climate – gas is a fossil fuel, which isn’t going to get us anywhere towards a more resilient and cleaner future.

We have all the solutions, now is the time to adopt them. Make fossil fuels history and Unfudge our Future!

Our Partners Australia is a climate change movement that’s organizing, empowering, and informing citizens in 188 countries to pressure their leaders into addressing climate change and cutting emissions. The name stems from the goal of reducing the atmosphere’s C02 levels from its current 400 parts per million to below 350 ppm.

  • Ben & Jerry’s has teamed up with Australia to urge Australia’s leaders to tackle climate change by making fossil fuels history. Ben & Jerry’s is inviting fans to join in the call to Unfudge our Future by sending a message to our leaders asking them to invest in a clean, resilient and fair future for all Australians. Ben & Jerry’s believe the recipe for our leaders to Unfudge Our Future is:

    Clean - investment in a fair and just transition to 100% renewable energy;

    Resilient - shifting tax cuts and subsidies from fossil fuel industries into policies that create a resilient Australia;

    Fair - listen to and invest in communities most impacted by climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The world faces an unprecedented challenge following Covid-19 and, unfortunately, the threat of climate change hasn’t gone anywhere and will only get worse if we don’t take the immediate action. But there is a silver lining! With every major disruption comes an opportunity to shake things up and get back on the right path. We have an opportunity to act now to ensure our voices are heard and that the government knows that we want them to invest in a clean, resilient and fair future for Australia.

  • Ben & Jerry’s has aggressive science-based greenhouse gas emission targets, including a commitment to 100% clean energy by 2025. At our manufacturing sites we’ve invested in a solar array that generates about 20% of the electricity we use at our Waterbury, VT factory and have a bio-digester at our Hellendoorn factory that turns waste from the manufacturing process into clean energy. In addition, our hometown of Burlington, VT was the first city in the country to achieve 100% of its electricity from clean energy sources.

  • At Ben & Jerry’s, we understand that as a for-profit ice cream company, we’re part of the problem, which is why we’ve committed ourselves to be a catalyst for solutions, both within our business and at the economy wide policy level. We’ve committed to reduce the full lifecycle emissions of our company, which includes our own emissions and our supply chain. You can read more about what we are doing at Ben & Jerry’s, including our science-based targets here.

    We are really proud of everything we have been doing, and while there is still a long way to go we are committed to continuing to invest and find ways to reduce our supply chain. You can find out more of the nitty, gritty details about our environmental work (and social mission work too!) in our latest impact report here.

  • Presenting the facts on climate change is something Ben & Jerry’s is committed to doing. We have a dedicated social mission manager who invests lots of time to making sure we are up to date with the latest news and scientific updates on all things climate change. In particular, we work closely with our partners and allies The Climate Council who share information, fact check, and keep us in the loop on all things climate change and science. The Climate Council are made up of an independent scientific body so the information we share with you is scientifically accurate and up to date.
