Earlier this month we unveiled a new limited-edition flavour Gimme S’More Renewables - a direct (and tasty) plea to Australian politicians to step up action on climate change. At a time when climate policy has paralysed Australian politics, we were calling on political leaders to commit to building a fossil-fuel free world by accelerating Australia’s move to renewable energy.
To make sure the politicians couldn’t miss our not-so-subtle message we delivered personalised pints of the Gimme S’More Renewables ice cream to key federal and state politicians, calling on each of them to support renewable energy and put an immediate end to new fossil fuel projects.
Our fans, and concerned Australians all over the country, joined us and our partner 350.org Australia at the #RiseforClimate on 8th September to demand our politicians take action on climate change. It was a huge success with over 6,000 Australians taking part in 52 events all demanding our politicians take action on climate change. Thank you to everyone that joined us! Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the politicians got our message – that we, and the majority of Australians, want them to support and switch to renewables. We must keep up the momentum and make sure they know where we stand. To make it easy for you to send a message to local politicians, we have postcards available at all Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops nationwide. We have set up post boxes in store and will then make sure they get delivered straight to your local MP. The message we would like you to help send is simple: ‘Renewable Is Doable’, we want you, our local politicians, to support renewable energy policy and a fast, fair and just transition to renewable energy across the country.
In case you needed another incentive to come down to the stores and send a postcard we are bringing Gimme S’more Renewables back to Scoop Shops. Proceeds from the flavour will go to Ben & Jerry’s’ long-term climate activism partner, 350.org Australia. So come down and join us for a scoop and demand that politicians Gimme S’more Renewables!
